Rakitic nears Barca exit as club rebuff new deal talks

 Irvan Rakitic

Ivan Rakitic have been reportedly hoping to extend his contract at Barcelona beyond summer 2021 but from the look of things, the Catalan Giants have rebuffed the new deal talks.

The Croatia international has enjoyed a successful stay at Camp Nou since his 18m euros move in 2014 from Sevilla.

The 30 year-old man has scored 33 goals in 245 appearances in  Barca winning many titles including three domestic titles, four Copa del Reys and the Champions League.

Rakitic had earlier this month ruled out chelsea move that he would like to renew his contract ‘and stay for many years’, but it seems Barca officials are not on the same page.

The Catalan completed a move deal for midfielders, Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo last summer and are hoping to bring in Frenkie De Jong from Ajax this summer, which will leave them with adequate cover to be in a position to offload Rakitic while they can still command a fee.
