The Nigerian Government announced that the National Sports Festival, Edo 2020, has been suspended.
The Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, announced this in a series of posts on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
He said the festival was postponed following confirmation of the third case of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
Dr. Osagie Ehanire had assured that organisers will screen spectators and participants at the festival except the coronavirus situation change.
It appears now that government has rescinded its initial plan of screening everyone at the festival following a new directive by the president to shelve the event.
The post from the minister of sports read: “Following the briefing of Mr. President from myself and the Minister of State for Health on COVID 19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports festival to a future date
“President Mohammadu Buhari approved the postponement of the National Sports Festival Edo 2020 as a precautionary move against COVID-19 spread.”
