A 30-year-old journalist, Zororo Makamba has become the first casualty resulting from COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.
Health Minister, Obadiah Moyo confirmed that the 30-year-old died at Wilkins Hospital in Harare, two days after he was diagnosed of the disease.
Zimbabwe’s information minister, Monica Mutsvangwa also expressed shock over the death of Zororo.
Zororo, few days after he returned to his home in Harare on March 9 from New York started exhibiting mild flu-like symptoms, Mutsvangwa said.
“Makamba on arrival at the hospital developed severe respiratory distress and was kept in isolation under supervision from health practitioners.
“Authorities are now tracing people who came into contact with him.
“As we mourn him the whole nation should take the threat of COVID 1 very seriously. Let’s all follow due medical precautions as announced by the Ministry of Health and by the World Health Organization,” Mutsvangwa said.
