Ondo North pledges support for Okunomo – PDP

People’s Democratic Party members in the Ondo North Senate district have pledged support for the ambition of a former party spokesman, Banji Okunomo

Okunomo was one of seven aspirants cleared of contesting at the PDP primaries by the Hon Yakubu Dogara screening committee.

The leaders of the Ondo North PDP said their support for Okunomo was due to his attitude when he served as a state executive member.

Speaking at a press briefing, spokesman of the Ondo North PDP, Hon. Oguntimehin Felix, said they want a grassroots politician like Okunomo to win the party primaries.

They said they were aware about activities of some of the screened aspirants already negotiating to step down in return for huge sums of money.

Oguntimehin noted that they trust him because he has never defected from the PDP to another political party.

He said the entire PDP structure in Ondo North would be mobilised for him and appealed to other zones to support them.

His words, “We praise Dogara for the thorough screening of the aspirants. We appealed to those screened out not to leave the party.

“Our job now is to begin massive mobilisation for Okunomo. He is from Ondo South. If those of us from the North are carrying out massive mobilisation, we expect the kinsmen of Okunomo to do same.

“We are not unaware of under ground talks to bribe some aspirants to step down. We trust Okunomo not to disappoint us. The APC in Ondo is weakened and we have to take advantage of its poor rating to secure victory at the polls if the right candidate is presented.”
