James Manager, Senator for Delta South Senatorial District, responded on Monday to reports of him benefiting from contract from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Recall that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, had accused some lawmakers of handling most of the contracts from NDDC.
To back up his assertion, Akpabio had published the names of lawmakers alleged to have been awarded contracts from NDDC of which manager was said to be one of the named ones.
Reacting to Akpabio’s claim, Manager threatened legal action over the inclusion of his name on the list.
The lawmaker insisted in a statement he released that none of his company has secured any contract from NDDC.
The former senate chairman of the Niger Delta Committee clarified that he has not visited NDDC headquarters since his term expired in 2015.
He said: “I sincerely wish to react as follows: That my tenure as chairman of Niger Delta Committee in the Senate effectively ended in 2015.
“That ever since then, I have never visited NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt or any of its branches.
“That NDDC never awarded any contract to any company owned by me. That I do not know of any company owned by me, that has ever gone into bidding for government jobs anywhere in the world. (This may come to many as a surprise but that is the gospel truth).”
