President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari, revealed on Wednesday why Nigeria does not have qualified young adults in a few years time.
The first lady stated that if the malnutrition problem is not solved, Nigeria does not have qualified youth to run the government, business, and academia in the future.
The President’s wife who was portrayed by the Vice President’s wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, said this on Tuesday at the virtual National Nutrition Summit Held.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Aliyu Abdullahi, Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, claimed that the first lady called on stakeholders to end the scourge of malnutrition that ravages Nigerian children so that they can live, flourish and have the required cognitive capacity to handle the future.
She noted that if much attention is not paid, the future of this country will mortgage, “because tomorrow, we would not have competent young adults to run government, businesses or even academia.” infosive
“By now we are certain that the Government and people of Nigeria are not oblivious of the nutrition situation in the country.
“We have also made some progress in recent years, especially having more stakeholders talking about Nutrition, and getting more nutrition-sensitive budget lines at Federal and State levels,” She said.
Mrs Buhari also drew attention to the current global pandemic, which has made the situation worse by directing all attention and resources towards combating the COVID-19 virus and deliberately ignoring young children in the process. She said the same is important to their lives.
