Mali: Buhari attends ECOWAS Virtual Meeting

On Thursday President Muhammadu Buhari attended the virtual Extraordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on political rocking in Mali.

Also attending the meeting with President Buhari from Abuja are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd); the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, among others.

Note that Malian troops detained the president and the prime minister on Tuesday after several months of demonstrations by Malians against his administration.

The President of Mali dissolved his cabinet just hours after the incident and announced his resignation.

He had said, “I want no blood to be spilt to keep me in power,” BBC quoted him as saying.
