Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, acting vice-chancellor of the university, was elected by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate on Monday.
She was elected to the Auditorium of the university at an emergency senate meeting held today.
Operatives of the Sabo Police Station provided security during the meeting.
Ogunsola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) polled 135 votes compared with 31 votes cast by Prof. Ben Oghojafor.
It was gathered one vote was declared void.
A total of 167 Professors were at the Senate meeting.
Oghojafor is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Management Services.
Ogunsola was the first woman to be the Provost College of Medicine University of Lagos before she became DVC.
SportyWap News recalls that the controversial and sacked Vice Chancellor UNILAG, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, had been ordered by President Buhari to move down.
In addition, Buhari ordered the institution’s pro-chancellor, Dr. Wale Babalakin, to recuse himself from official duties.
The president constituted a special visitation panel to look into the ongoing crisis in UNILAG questions
The panel was given two weeks to submit its report.
The panel is to be chaired by former vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Tukur Sa’ad.
Mr. Sa’ad, a professor, was in office between 2002 and 2007 and was also a resident electoral commissioner in Borno State.
President Buhari has ordered the university senate to convene and appoint an acting vice-chancellor from among its representatives for the university council ‘s confirmation.
