Court dismisses Ondo Deputy Speaker, Suspension of Other Lawmakers

A state high court sitting in Akure has dismissed the suspension of the Ondo State Deputy Speaker, Hon Irioju Ogundeji, and three other lawmakers.

Remember that the Ondo Assembly leadership had suspended the legislators over what was perceived as an unparliamentary act.

The lawmakers have reportedly been among the nine lawmakers who kicked the state’s deputy governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, against impeachment step.

In his ruling, Justice Ademola Bola said the Speaker, Hon Bamidele Oleyeloogun lacked the power to suspend any of the Assembly members.

While describing the suspension as illegal and unlawful, the court also ordered the Assembly to immediately pay all the entitlements of the affected lawmakers with N5 million Naira damages also awarded.
