Van Dijk sends warning to Liverpool ahead of Champions League clash with Porto.
Liverpool defender, Van Dijk has urged his team to make good use of home advantage of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals first leg fixture against Porto.
Van Dijk sees Liverpool as the favorites in the draw which could hand them an opportunity to reach a second consecutive final, with the Portuguese club widely regarded as one of the weakest of sides left in the competition.
Though seen as a favorite team Dijk has said Liverpool will face a tough game but should use it earn a first-leg advantage;
”I think Liverpool as a club, if you look at the whole season and results at Anfield especially, we will go into tomorrow as favourites,’ Van Dijk said. ‘We have to enjoy it and perform.
”We know it will be tough. They (Porto) don’t want to experience what they experienced last year.’
When asked about completing a Premier League and Champions League double after returning to the top of the table on Friday, Van Dijk said: ‘We are still in both races so it’s possible.
”It’s game-by-game. Tomorrow we hopefully set a base to take with us to Porto. In the Premier League we know any slip can end our title dreams.
”We should play with freedom otherwise we can’t show our qualities properly. But I don’t think there’s room for slip-ups in the Champions League either.
”Hopefully (it is our time). Hopefully it can be great at the end of the season.’
