Liverpool centre-back, Virgil van Dijk has expressed belief that with nine games between them and a Premier League-Champions League double is possible .
Van Dijk said any of his team mates who do not believe this should “stay at home”
Dijk scored one of the 2-0 goals against Porto in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday,
He believes that with the five league games remaining, Jurgen Klopp’s team who tops the Premier League table, they can win the English top flight league and Champions League together this season, a record no team has been able to break since Alex Ferguson set at United in 2007-08.
Van Dijk said this while speaking to reporters at Anfield on Tuesday;
‘It’s still something we need to believe and do, but if you think about it, what is nine games?
‘You have to believe otherwise you can just stay home next time. Go for it.
‘We played a tough team, good result, but it’s not over. It’ll be even harder over there in Porto, but hopefully we do the job and go to the next round.
‘We should be confident anyway, it’s a great time to be a Liverpool player and, hopefully, there are nine games left if everything goes well, fingers crossed.
‘We’ll give everything we’ve got then have a well-deserved break after.
The Dutchman refused to label Liverpool as the favorites to be crowned champions of Europe, even if their target is to reach the final for a second successive season.
‘All the teams still in it have all the chance to win the trophy,
‘But we’ll believe in ourselves to keep going and hopefully reach the final again, because that’s what we’re aiming for, the 27-year-old added.
