Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde names Pep Guardiola best in coaching, despite City’s untimely Champions League exit.
City fell out of the Season’s Europe top flight league following VAR ruling on Sterling’s stoppage time build-up goal, and Valverde believes the citizens did explicitly well under Guardiola.
‘Guardiola is without any doubt the best coach, regardless of the Champions League elimination,
Barcelona did progress, though, and Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning goal in the match against Manchester United, which he celebrated by putting his fingers in his ears.
It seemed to be in response to the criticism he has endured this season and Valverde defended him.
‘He made a gesture after the goal and what surprised me was that they talked more about this than about the great goal,
‘It did not seem disrespectful to anyone.
‘When a player hits the target he has the confidence that he lacked in other moments.
“We are always open to criticism and we are willing to face this.”
Barcelona will face Real Sociedad on Saturday and Valverde emphasised the importance of grabbing a win.
“Real Sociedad have great players, but what drives us above all is the need to win,” he continued.
“We have a week in which we can get the nine points that can make us league champions.
“We are playing for the league title and we know it.
“This game is not just another match, but it can be a very important step towards the championship.”
The former Athletic Club tactician also praised Liverpool, his team’s rivals in the Champions League semi-finals.
“They are a very powerful opponent, with an attack that is demonstrating its potential both this season and in last season,” he noted.
“The previous year they reached the Champions League final and this time they have had a great tournament, while they also fight for the Premier League.
“It’s a very attractive game for everyone and it will be very difficult,Valverde said in a press conference on Friday.
