Nigerian Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has urged his men to avoid making similar mistakes capable of dislodging them as they face South Africa in the quarter finals of the AFCON.
Super Eagles fell 2-0 to Madagascar when John Ogu’s back pass to Leon Balogun was intercepted.
And was even more poor in defense during their 3-2 victory over Cameroon when Ola Aina allowed Njie Clinton to steal in and score.
However, despited being able to bounced back against the Indomitable Lions, Rohr warns ,South Africa are not to be taken lightly.
”Anything is possible in this AFCON, you have so many surprises and so many mistakes, individual mistakes with all the pressure on the player,” he said at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
”We have to avoid these mistakes, we try to not repeat some mistakes.
He recalled how errors have made him conceded four goals in four matches, scoring five.
”The goal with Madagascar, and with Ola Aina against Cameroon, it’s part of the game. In our team, we are able to say ‘sorry I make a mistake’ but next time will be better.
”What is good is to see that goals we conceded are not coming from mistakes in our tactical organization, or strategy but are individual mistakes, and we have to forgive.”
Super Eagles on Wednesday will take the Bafana Bafana, Match time is 8:pm Nigerian time.
