Ex-Gunner, Jeremie Aliadiere has told Arsenal two players they must sign before they attempt to bring in Wilfried Zaha or Everton Soares.
The Premier League club has had their eyes on rival Crystal Palace winger Zaha as their top target this summer, but have so far been frustrated in their efforts complete his move.
Arsenal made a £40m bid turned down by Palace who are holding out for an offer that meets their £80m valuation.
And with Everton now joining the race and reportedly prepared to outbid Arsenal, Gunners boss Unai Emery could turn to Gremio’s Everton Soares as an alternative.
However, one former Arsenal player says there are two positions the club must fill before they boost their forward options with Zaha or Soares.
“I really like Everton Soares. I saw him play at the Copa America and he was terrific,” said ex-Gunners striker Jeremie Aliadiere.
“He was quick and sharp and skilful but he wasn’t very strong and in the Premier League you need to be.
“I am not so sure that a winger is an area where Arsenal need to buy at the moment.
“If you can bring in a top player on the cheap then great, that should be done.
“But at the moment when I’m seeing the kids in pre-season and I think they deserve a chance.
“We then also have Mkhitaryan, Ozil and Maitland-Niles – these are top players who need to play. With the budget that we have I’d rather we spent all of that on defenders and a central midfielder than Everton Soares.”
