Atleti have appealed for Costa’s red card against Real Madrid to be rescinded


Atletico Madrid have made an appeal that Diego Costa’s red card picked against rivals Real Madrid during their International Champions Cup tie on Friday night be rescinded.

Costa was sent off along with Dani Carvajal after an incident broke out between the two players during Atletico’s remarkable 7-3 victory in the International Champions Cup.

The forward was dismissed for kicking out at the Real Madrid man, which led to a heated brawl between both of them.

The consequence of a red card according to tournament’s guidelines is a one-match ban.

Previously in pre-season, Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente was sent off against Mexican side Guadalajara but was cleared to play his former club in the Madrid derby.

Atletico meet Juventus on August 10. The Italian league champions defeated Diego Simeone’s team in the knockout stage of the Champions League 2018/19.
