Former boss of Newcastle United, Graeme Souness, said that for Manchester United, Harry Maguire would be an ‘exceptional’ signing.
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Leicester City to sign the England defender for £80million, which is a world record fee for a defender.
Harry Maguire will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third summer signing following the two Premier League clubs agreement for the 26-year-old.
And reacting to Manchester United’s transfer record-breaking move, the former Newcastle United manager, Souness told Sky Sports;
”Everyone knows United are desperate to get back to the top of the Premier League.
”There’s a premium paid normally for Manchester United but this time I think there’s a premium on the premium.”
Harry Maguire, who is expected to complete his medical at Manchester United this weekend, will become the most expensive defender in history.
Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk previously held that record but Souness added, “£80m? It’s not for me to say it’s too much,’ the former Premier League defender added.
”That’s how much he cost, they were prepared to pay and they’ve got him. I think he will be outstanding for Manchester United.”
