An earlier report suggested it was communicated to Arsenal hierarchy today and they immediately struck down the offer.

Everton would have make a return with an improved offer but it will likely need to be in excess of £40m to be accepted by the Gunners if they must have their young wing man this summer.

However, the 23-year-old Nigeria international is not agitating to leave but would be willing to move if a deal between the clubs comes through.

Everton’s interest is understood to be recent and is in addition to their pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Wilfied Zaha.
