AS Roma have reportedly stepped up their interest in signing Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz, but hope to have him on loan with option to buy as replacement for departed, Edin Dzeko.
Last season, the 26-year-old Dominican struggled to score just four goals in 22 competitive appearances.

The price-tag is much the same as Dzeko, €20m, but the Giallorossi would prefer to take Mariano on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
This would give them some leeway both financially and in football terms, seeing as Mariano Diaz has never played in Serie A before.

He did spend the 2017-18 season in France with Olympique Lyonnais and is under contract until June 2023.
