Manchester City kicked starts new season of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, with a whooping 5-0 victory over West Ham United.
Goals from Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling netting first hat-trick of the season ensured the English Champions secure a first step of the campaign in a resounding win.
And Pep Guardiola speaking after the game acknowledged, starting away looked almost difficult as his side couldn’t lay hold on the stirring.
“Difficult away from home, 12:30 kick-off, hot. The first half was not good. We didn’t control second balls and lost a lot of balls.
“It was important to get three points, a clean sheet. At 2-0, they have a chance. Overall for the first game it is an incredible result.
“Second half was much better. More calm, but still we have many things to improve.”
On the use of VAR: “We lost a little bit, the instant? After what happened against Tottenham in the Champions League – the passion, now we can control that emotion. It’s good mentally, you have to be strong, have to learn to control our emotions.”
”First game, away, 0-5 is an incredible result. We have to learn what today we have not done properly. I believe more in the tactics, simple things, come back to basics and what you have to do. That’s normal.”
“You have to be mentally strong when VAR is not on our side. You think at 0-3 the game is almost over but at 0-2, the game is completely different. You have to be calm and be strong, it is going to change the dynamic not just for the team but for the spectators.
“It will be a good lesson for our future.”
On Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick the Spaniard said: “When people who play outside in the wings can score goals, your team will score lots – it’s good, all the pre-season games he scored goals. But in the first half, he can do better.”
