A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that Tom Godswill, a 47-year-old father, be remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for allegedly defiling his 16-year-old daughter.
Godswill was charged with defilement, according to NAN.
Chief Magistrate A.O Ajibade, who dismissed Godswill’s plea of lack of jurisdiction, remanded the defendant pending the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ advice (DPP). The case was adjourned until March 22 by Ajibade.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, ASP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Godswill allegedly committed the crime at No.16, Julianah Lawson Street in Alagbado, Lagos, sometime between November and December 2019.
The minor, according to Ajayi, told her teacher that her father had allegedly defiled her.
According to the lawyer, the teacher reported the incident to the school counselor, who then reported it to the relevant authorities.
She said the crime was in violation of Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
