Former England captain David Beckham is  reportedly said to be the first Major League Soccer player that will be honored with a statue.

According to the team news on Friday, the statue will be unveiled at LA Galaxy’s stadium ahead of their season opener on March 2.

David Beckham who has played for both Manchester United and Real Madrid as a midfielder, in 2007 became the first big European name to join the MLS, where he won 2011 and 2012 championships back-to-back in his six years with 98 appearances at the Galaxy.

The 43-year old’s MLS stint has helped give the American league credibility and paved way for other top European players to make the leap in subsequent years.
