Edo State Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), detained on Wednesday two suspected internet fraudsters.
According to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN), the State Service Director, Mr. Brown Ekwoaba, announced this while briefing newsmen on Wednesday on the Service’s operations in Benin.
He said the suspects were arrested for using the name of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and that of the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari to defraud unsuspecting public.
Ekwoaba said that one of the suspects aged 30, was arrested through a coordinated tactical operation on July 25 in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area.
He said that the suspect allegedly owned a fictitious Facebook account created using the name of the vice president.
Ekwoaba also said that another suspect aged 18, was arrested on July 26 at Old Agbor Road, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area for impersonating the wife of Nigeria’s President.
He said the suspect had supposedly developed an Instagram account with the First Lady’s name and photo to swindle unsuspecting audiences.
The DSS Director said the two suspects had confessed to the crimes, and would soon be arraigned before the courts.
He said, “The Service wants to advise young people against committing or contemplating fraudulent acts, there can never be any quick route to riches.”
