Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola says there is a ‘big chance’ they will not sign Sergio Aguero’s replacement this summer.
Aguero revealed he will be leaving Man City at the end of the season when his contract expires this summer. Guardiola admits the club’s all-time leading scorer will be “irreplaceable”.
“There is a big chance we are not going to sign a striker this summer,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.
“We have enough players in the first-team right now and we have interesting players in the academy, so there is a big chance that because of the economic situation in the world right now, we are not going to sign a striker next season.”
“With these prices, we are not going to sign any striker,” added Guardiola, when pressed on his earlier answer.
Southampton’s Danny Ings and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland are among the strikers being considered by the City hierarchy, but financial concerns caused by the pandemic mean a transfer may not be possible.
