Liverpool, Man City joins race for United’s target, Eder Militao

Eder Militao,

LIVERPOOL and Manchester City have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Eder Militao, reports claim.

Liverpool and City look set for an almighty title scrap alongside Tottenham in the Premier League this season.

And each team will be looking at the January transfer window as an opportunity to bolster their squads for the rest of the gruelling campaign.

Transfer Market Web claim Liverpool and City have now joined the list of elite clubs keeping tabs on Porto’s Eder Militao.

And that will come as a serious blow to United, who are said to maintain an interest in the 20-year-old despite the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reported on Wednesday that United were in a strong position to land Militao.

And that’s because his release clause remains a modest £45.2m (€50m) as he rejects Porto’s attempts to get him to sign a new deal.

However, Liverpool and City’s superiority over rivals Manchester United could mean he snubs a move to Old Trafford for Anfield or the Etihad.

Liverpool and Manchester City are not alone in lining up Militao with less than a week to go before players can be signed again.

Transfer Market Web indicate Roma are keen on taking the former Sao Paulo ace to the Stadio Olimpico.

Borussia Dortmund chiefs are also said to be eager to add Militao to Lucien Favre’s title-chasing squad.

Eder Militaois under contract at Porto until 2023 having only put pen to paper on fresh terms in August.

But the existence of a release clause in his agreement means the Portuguese giants will be powerless to prevent him leaving if it is triggered

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp currently has centre-backs Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip at his disposal.

But, with Gomez and Matip nursing injuries, he may be tempted to petition Reds chiefs to get Militao on board.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has John Stones, America Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, Vincent Kompany and the much-maligned Eliaquim Mangala among his senior ranks.

Although the chance to beat Liverpool and United to one of the global game’s rising stars might be too good to turn down.
