UEFA Nations League: Netherlands defeats England 3-1 to face Portugal in final
Netherlands are through to this year’s UEFA Nations League finals after defeating England 3-1 in over 137 minutes of play.
Jesse Lingard however came in to add another by capping a brilliant flowing move but VAR said he was offside. And then England had to endure more VAR drama as a handball claim against Ben Chilwell was eventually waved away to end it in 1-1 before extra time.
And few minutes into the extra time it turned an absolute dog’s dinner of a goal! when Ross Barkley played it back to Harry Maguire, who went back again to John Stones.
He had so much time, too much time trying a Cruyff turn inside his own area but lost out. Jordan Pickford bails him out with a good save but sub Quincy Promes bundles one in under pressure from Kyle Walker.
England made a throw in, that went back to John Stones, who again played a dreadful ball towards Ross Barkley on the edge of his own area. Barkley’s pass is equally as bad, straight to Memphis Depay, who squares it past Jordan Pickford to give Quincy Promes a tap-in to make it hopeless 3-1 for England to imagine.
Netherlands now progresses to play Portugal in the finals as England have no other way than face Swiss for the third place.
