PDP calls for the unconditional release of Salihu Yakasai

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate and unconditional release from the security custody of Salihu Yakasai, son of Tanko Yakasai, the elder statesman.

The party described as totally unacceptable the alleged arrest of Salihu by security operatives as well as his alleged detention in a secret facility, just after his criticism of the Buhari administration’s failures to combat banditry in our country.

This was included in a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP National Publicity Secretary, released on Saturday.

In his view,

The PDP also opposes the decision of the Governor of the State of Kano, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, to summarily relieve Salihu Yakasai of his role as Special Media Advisor on the ground that his patriotic call for immediate action to end terrorism was contrary to the stance of the APC government.

“It’s also worth noting that Governor Ganduje released a similar warning to all political appointees and civil servants in the state against patriotic phrases like Salihu’s.

Governor Ganduje’s actions have again heightened apprehension over the suspected relations between the leaders of the APC and the bandits pillaging our country.

The PDP demands that Governor Ganduje come clean on the matter in this respect.

“This is because those stances have only helped to embolden terrorists while frustrating patriotic civilians who are speaking out against extremism in our country.

“The PDP calls on Nigerians to keep the APC and its leaders accountable for the escalating actions of banditry and terrorism in our country, as well as any hurt that might befall well-intentioned people who speak out against outlaws’ activities,” the statement said.
