Esther David, a 33-year-old tailor, was charged with breach of trust in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
A two-count charge of negligence and criminal breach of trust has been filed against the defendant, who lives in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, said the complainant, one Cynthia Godwin, of Ungwan Sunday in Television area, Kaduna, reported the matter at Sabon Tasha Police Station, Kaduna, on Feb. 22.
According to Leo, the complainant gave the defendant three pieces of wrapper to sew for her sometime in November 2020, and she was charged N17,000.
The complainant gave the defendant N10,000 and promised to pay the balance when the clothes were ready, according to the prosecutor.
Leo added that when the complainant came to collect her clothes, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation for losing the wrappers.
He further added that all efforts made by the complainant to get the wrappers and money back from the defendant proved abortive.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 311 and 233 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The defendant pleaded of not guilty.
According to NAN, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted her bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case until March 31.
