Brighton and Hove Albion are preparing £25m to sign Bristol City defender, Adam Webster also wanted by newly promoted Premier League side, Aston Villa.
Centre-back seen as a replacement for Lewis Dunk was earlier on Aston Villa’s want list, but Dean Smith looked elsewhere after being reluctant to pay for his worth.
Smith brought in Bjorn Engels, Ezri Konsa and confirmed the permanent additions of Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause, all of whom along with James Chester will be battling for a place in the claret and blue back-line.
However, Graham Potter’s Brighton are make Webster their record buy as they prepare to lose Lewis Dunk to Leicester City.
Dunk will replace Harry Maguire, who in turns appears almost certain to leave the King Power Stadium for Manchester United.
Incidentally, the player that Robins boss Lee Johnson is looking to replace Webster with is Newcastle fringe player – and former Villa defender – Ciaran Clark.
Villa, meanwhile, are understood to be nearing their 11th signing of the window in the form of midfielder Marvelous Nakamba from Club Brugge.
