Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed has reported that several houses and billions of Naira are owned by many politicians in Nigeria.
He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at a book presentation in honour of Chief Bisi Akande, the pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Present at the event were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, lawmakers, representatives of Governors of Osun, Kano and Lagos, NAN reports.
“What we witnessed today is a celebration of a man of principle, integrity and politician with strict adherence to good governance
“His understanding of good governance is how positively government can impact on the people.
“What we are celebrating today is the contrast to a generally accepted wrong notion that integrity does not pay,” Mohammed told newsmen at the event.
The minister added that the essence of being in politics was to render good governance, selfless service to the populace and not about fat bank accounts.
“We have been told here today, for instance, that when the military struck in 1983 and Chief Akande was captured, only about N2000 was found in his bank account.
“They are several politicians in Nigeria today who own so many houses, in their accounts billions of Naira, but they’re not being celebrated like this man,” he said.
